Women To Be Proud Of

Women Economic Forum 2020

A couple of days ago, I attended a very important event, the Women Economic Forum (WEF) 2020 during which I met gorgeous, successful, and inspiring women.

Starting by inspiring Dr Harbeen Arora, founder and global chairperson, all ladies league (ALL) & Women Economic Forum (WEF), a very humble,  down to earth, kind lady. Her message is to support and motivate every woman worldwide to be the best she can professionally and personally.  She listened attentively and with an open heart to every woman talked during the event, as if she was telling them, I am here with you, supporting you, standing by your side till you achieve your dream. Her journey as an entrepreneur and public speaker is so inspiring and motivating to every woman who wants to make a difference.

Meeting Dr Maya Morsy, the president of the national council for women made me happy as I wanted to meet her since a long time, She seems to be strong although she passed through hard times, a woman who played a great role supporting the women in their professional fields, supporting the woman as wives who sometimes take the full responsibility of their families and supporting the women as mothers who is responsible for the new generations.

Despite her son’s loss “Ameen”, which was so recent, she didn’t give up her role, showing acceptance to God’s destiny, and continued to support women through a lot of organizations and she announced an initiative called Ameen’s heart (Alb Ameen) which aims to educate athletes and youth about the way to deal with heart and health crises and the proper way to stimulate the heart. She turned her sorrow into support to different categories of people.

Passing by the big heart Dr Anissa Hassouna, the prominent member of parliament, the author, the mother and the grandmother whom we recently saw on television as the CEO of al Nas hospital, the largest free paediatrics hospital in the middle east and Africa, but I was surprised to know that she accepted this role during her recovery journey from cancer. The doctors told her you don’t have too much time left as she was in stage three, but she decided to wear the warrior’s mantle and not only fight for her life and for the sake of spending more time with her grandchildren, she also accepted the role of managing al Nas hospital.

Instead of focusing on herself and her family, she started to create awareness about this disease and empower other women going through the cancer journey, she also wrote a book called “Bedoon Sabeq Enzar” (without prior warning) which documents her journey and gives hope to many women going through this painful journey.

Passing by the economist and successful businesswomen, Neveen El Tahri, who started a very successful business, the first female to sit on the board of the Egyptian Stock Exchange and the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority. Neveen was twice named by the Financial Times as one of the leading businesswomen in the Arab world. She supports small and medium enterprises in Egypt, and she is a true source of inspiration for a lot of businesswomen and youth, starting their businesses. She believes that creativity is not enough; it should be combined with working hard and continued learning.

If I was asked who inspired me the most, I must be the psychiatrist and coach Zeinab El Ghatit. She is one of the most inspiring ladies, a one I genuinely admire. Despite being paralyzed since she birth, she chose to excel at education and decided to be part of the society to empower vulnerable individuals. Her talk moved all of the attendees for she spoke from the heart.

Her talk highlighted that it’s not about the voiceless people, the people who are suffering from any disease or who are different by any means, it’s about the community that needs to listen to them and gives them opportunities to participate in the society fairly with all the love and support as it’s never their fault. She also emphasized that people with special needs ought not to hide from society or isolate themselves, instead, they should show up and succeed.

The Women Economic Forum was packed with numerous stories of ladies who decided to succeed despite all the challenges and obstacles they faced. Also, many of them decided to change their careers and start their own business despite the refusal and demotivation that they faced from their families and society, and others who suffered all their lives from low self-esteem and low self-confidence but finally managed to find their voice and started to find their true passion.

Attending women events especially that includes different cultures and celebrates diversity is always uplifting and inspiring.
